SEPA Transfers Are Now Instant-Only

SEPA Transfers Are Now Instant-Only

The European payment system has made another breakthrough: from now on, all transfers within the SEPA zone must be completed in less than 10 seconds — 24/7, with no weekends or holidays. This is not just a technical upgrade, but a fundamental shift in the financial landscape, opening up new opportunities for businesses and individual clients.

According to Regulation (EU) 2024/886 — Instant Payments Regulation, starting from October 9, 2025, all banks operating within the SEPA zone are required not only to receive, but also to send instant SEPA transfers. Euro transfers that used to be delayed for hours or even days will now be processed almost in real time.

📌 What changes in practice:

  • ⏱ Transfers are completed in less than 10 seconds
  • 🌍 Available in 41 SEPA countries (EU, UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Serbia, etc.)
  • 💸 Cost is the same as a regular SEPA transfer
  • 📆 Works 365 days a year, even on holidays
  • 🔒 Verification of Payee is implemented to increase transaction security

Starting April 2027, these same requirements will also apply to non-bank financial institutions, opening new possibilities for FinTech companies and payment systems.
