Incredible Crypto Breakthrough: Discover Who Snagged the First Coveted MiCA Licenses in the EU!

The Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets has issued the first CASP (Crypto Asset Service Providers) licenses under the MiCA Regulations. The first license holders are: cryptocurrency payment platform MoonPay, digital asset management company BitStaete, fintech company ZBD, and brokerage firm Hidden Road. The relevant data is announced in the AFM report dated December 30, 2024. Such authorization entitles its holders to legally provide cryptocurrency services on the territory of 27 EU member states.

Reminder that on December 30, the next block of the MiCA Regulation came into force. Providers of virtual services need to submit a corresponding application to the competent authority of the state of incorporation to obtain CASP. This must be done during a transitional period, which differs in each Member State. In addition, the competent authority must be duly informed about the Member States where activity will take place.

The MiCA Regulation is aimed at unifying the cryptocurrency providers activity across the EU, improving AML procedures, as well as increasing the level of end-user protection. Despite the detailing of the Regulation, the procedure is quite complex and requires serious preparatory steps.
